The SanDisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive packs tons of storage space than most Chromebooks, it is tiny and is special indeed. Its stylish design and neat cap ensure that you can carry all your content almost anywhere, without snagging along a monotonous flash drive. In fact, you’ll occasionally confuse it for a USB dongle for your wireless keyboards and mouse, something that adds to its practicality.

It weighs only 4 grams, meaning it can easily fit into your pocket and even wallet. We are reviewing the 256GB model, but it also comes in: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities.

SanDisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive design

Design

This flash drive is really tiny, with a Plug and Stay design, that means you can plug it into the USB port of your computer and let it stay there. It won’t get in the way of how your laptop looks, how you slide it into a laptop sleeve, cover or bag. Going by the tiny footprint, we’d recommend using a lanyard with this flash drive, so you can easily find it on a computer table.

The rear part of the SanDisk Ultra Fit flash drive has a lanyard cutout for easy attachment. You can hook it to a key chain or one of the many designer USB lanyards available out there in the market. Overall, it measures 0.75 x 0.65 x 0.35 inches, which is almost half the size of a common USB flash drive, but still in the same ballpark as most tiny USB dongles.

Performance

The SanDisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive is USB 3.1 (Generation 1) certified, supporting backward USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatibility. SanDisk claims that this new flash drive offers speeds of up to 130Mb/s, which is up to 15x faster as compared to the USB 2.0 standard, but it used the latest USB 3.1 standards.

In real-life tests, it offers an average data transfer speed of 28MB/s when copying an FHD movie of size 3.8GB from a PC to the flash drive, and a transfer rate of 90 MB/s when transferring from the flash drive to a computer. Being a single file, its very easy to achieve those numbers and copying more complicated files with sub-folder might get in the way of speeds. Still, the speeds are top-notch for such a value flash drive.
